Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about your Dogshood gear. Can't find your answer? We reply within 24 hours.

How do I know what size to buy?

To find the perfect fit for your pup, check out our sizing chart.

Can I change or cancel my order?

Since each harness is made to order, production starts immediately after you place your order and we're unable to make changes or cancellations once it's been placed. Please double-check your size, color, and personalization details at checkout.

How can I track my order?

Once your order has shipped, you'll receive a shipping confirmation email with your tracking information. You can also check your order status anytime here: Track Your Order. If you haven't received your tracking details, please check your spam or junk folder before contacting support@dogshood.com.

Why hasn't my tracking updated?

Tracking updates can sometimes take 24-72 hours after your order has been collected by the carrier. If your tracking hasn't updated after 5 business days, contact support@dogshood.com and we'll look into it for you.

What happens if my package is marked as delivered but I haven't received it?

We recommend checking around your property, with household members, neighbours, or your local courier depot first. If you're still unable to locate your package, contact support@dogshood.com and we'll help you sort it out.

What is your return and warranty policy?

We're happy to offer a refund for any reason — change of mind, wrong size, wrong color, or anything else — as long as it's requested within 90 days of your order being delivered. Your harness also comes with a lifetime warranty (Fair Use) covering manufacturing defects. For full details, see our Refund & Warranty Policy.

Fitting & Sizing

How do I put the harness on and get the perfect fit?

Over the head, one click, done — it takes 2-3 seconds.

  1. Hold the harness open with the logo facing up
  2. Slip it over your dog's head
  3. Close the belly strap — you'll hear the ITW buckle click into place
  4. Do the two-finger test: slide two fingers flat between the harness and your dog's chest — snug is right, too loose and your dog can back out, too tight and it's uncomfortable
  5. Adjust the fit using the slider on the chest strap — pull to tighten, press the release to loosen — then re-do the two-finger test

No paw lifting, no leg threading. Your dog barely notices it's happening.

Front D-Ring

How do I install the Front D-Ring?

The Front D-Ring is a separate attachment. Installation takes about 30 seconds: locate the chest loop on the front of the harness, thread the D-Ring attachment through it, secure it — you'll feel it lock into place — then give it a firm tug to confirm it's seated. Do it once and it stays, no tools needed.

What's the difference between the front ring and the back ring?

Your harness has two leash attachment points. Back ring: for relaxed walks when your dog walks calmly beside you. Front ring (D-Ring): for dogs that pull — when your dog pulls forward, the front clip redirects their momentum sideways, gently turning them back toward you. It's physics, not force.

Do I need the Front D-Ring?

If your dog pulls on walks — yes. If your dog already walks calmly beside you, the harness works fine on its own with the back ring, and you can always add the D-Ring later.

Product & Care

How do I wash the harness?

Handwash only with mild detergent, rinse, and air dry. Avoid the washing machine and dryer to protect the fabric and padding.

What material is the harness made of?

Tear-resistant fabric with non-elastic straps and soft sponge padding. The buckles are ITW Nexus military-grade hardware — the same buckle technology used in rescue equipment. All materials are breathable, lightweight, and chafe-resistant.

Is the harness waterproof or water-resistant?

The harness is water-resistant. It handles rain and light water exposure without issues, but we recommend air drying after heavy exposure.

Can my dog wear the harness all day?

We recommend using the harness primarily during walks, training, or travel. For extended periods indoors, it's best to remove it so your dog can fully relax. Prolonged wear can cause matting in long-haired breeds.

Does the harness have a handle?

Yes — there's a sturdy handle on the back for extra control in crowded areas, when assisting your dog over obstacles, or during training.

Can I use the harness in the car?

Yes — the harness works with most standard car seatbelt attachments to help keep your dog safe and secure during travel. For extra security, check out our own Dogshood Car Safety Belt, designed to clip directly onto the harness.

Can I attach a regular leash or only the Dogshood bungee leash?

Any standard leash works with your Dogshood harness. Our own Dogshood Bungee Leash is optional — it absorbs sudden jerks and protects both your shoulders and your dog's neck — but it's not required.
